CCRS was contacted by a couple whose chow had given birth to 6 puppies. They were concerned about 3 male puppies that were 6 weeks old and not walking yet. They asked if our rescue could take them in and get them to a specialist. This is the video that was sent to us, it is heartbreaking. The couple brought them to their vet where the vet evaluated them and was unsure of a diagnosis. She thinks it could be neurological and suggested they may grow out of it but she suggested they see a specialist. She gave them antibiotics in case of underlying infection, she did labs that came back fine. She also gave them a steroid shot. The owner said they seem to be improving and purchased a pool for them to help the muscles not atrophy. We will be taking these babies in this week now that they are weaned. The owner has agreed to surrender the 3 females as well who have no health issues and the dad as the vet suggested this is congenital.
It will cost a small fortune to get the 3 boys into a specialist, MRI’s, x-rays, physical therapy, hydrotherapy, etc. These babies need a chance, the video is absolutely heartbreaking. I have never seen anything like it before. If there is a possibility they may not recover we will need to address quality of life. However, we know chows are tough and resilient. We hope for the best!
To raise funds to help these puppies we have set up this You Caring account
